Our editorial guidelines are designed to offer our teams and contributors guidance on what to avoid while giving the public a clear understanding of what to expect from us.

 

However, we acknowledge that the intricacies of real life cannot be condensed into a simple set of rules. We advocate for open dialogue and discussions with colleagues and supervisors about particular scenarios, rather than trying to draft an ethics policy that covers every potential dilemma.

Monetization Strategies: Subscriptions, Advertising, and Partnership Revenues

At GM Commerce, our editorial networks and business ventures are financially supported through a variety of means. These include consumer subscription sales, advertising, editorial sponsorships, branded and affiliate content.

 

However, and importantly, these business activities never compromise the integrity or influence the content of our editorial teams.

Each type of content related to advertisers or sponsors is clearly marked as "Presented by," "Paid Content For," or "Advertiser Content," as needed.

 

Presented by: This content is created by our editorial teams independently but is funded by advertisers. It is clearly disclosed on our websites, distribution partners, and social media as "Presented by" the specific sponsor. 

Paid Content For: This content is funded by an advertiser and produced with GM Commerce's involvement. Advertisers may have input on general topics or themes, but GM Commerce editorial teams have full editorial control and the advertiser has no control, review, or approval rights.

Affiliate: Some content includes affiliate links, which means we earn a commission on purchases made through those links. Disclosures are included when affiliate links are used.

Advertisements do not represent the views of GM Commerce or our editorial teams.

GM Commerce's advertising team and partners uphold our company's values of truth, transparency, and the promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout our network of vendors, contributors, and clients.

 

These values guide our cultural initiatives, partnerships, and the content we produce on behalf of advertisers, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and community standards for online advertising. We prioritize honesty and transparency, prohibiting false, misleading, or deceptive content. Discriminatory practices that harm underrepresented populations are strictly forbidden, and we reserve the right to reject any advertisement or client for any reason.

Disclosure and Ethics: Handling Conflicts, Activism, and Transparency

GM Commerce prides itself on the editorial independence of its newsrooms, with staff and contributors dedicated to maintaining this independence. They will steer clear of activities that might compromise their journalistic integrity. When conflicts of interest occur, such as through personal or familial connections, financial investments or contributions, or working with or promoting an organization under coverage, the involved editorial team member or contributor will be recused from the coverage or will disclose the conflict publicly.

Though GM Commerce has numerous investors, these investors do not have any influence over our reporting or our internal editorial processes.

GM Commerce acknowledges the increasing prevalence of online and offline harassment and its potentially life-altering effects on individuals. We are committed to protecting our employees and contractors from such behaviors through proactive measures.

 

Should a GM Commerce employee be implicated in perpetrating or endorsing harassment, we will take decisive steps to address the situation. 

Editorial Guidelines for Restricted Content​

  • Content must portraying minors (or individuals appearing underage) in a sexually suggestive or age-inappropriate manner.
